About us

Launched in 2018, Superheroes Against Superbugs (SaS) aims to build a community dedicated to tackling the growing threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in India by raising awareness and promoting public and policy action. At SaS, we believe that everyone needs to become 'superheroes' if we are to effectively combat AMR in India and globally.

SaS is a novel and unique initiative that engages young people as partners in combating this century’s biggest health threat. By combining innovative science education with creative participatory approaches, SaS empowers young people with scientific knowledge about AMR and equips them with the communication and engagement tools to promote awareness and action within their communities.

About Antimicrobial Resistance

Alexander Fleming's accidental discovery of penicillin in 1928 led to a golden age in medicine, with antibiotics becoming a powerful tool to treat life-threatening infections. However, recently, there has been a rise in deaths from infections because bacteria and other microbes are becoming resistant to these drugs, turning into 'superbugs' that are hard to treat. This problem is getting worse because of the misuse and overuse of antibiotics.

Why is AMR a global health concern?

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) constitutes a pressing global concern, with far-reaching implications for human, animal, and environmental health. This video highlights the process by which microbes evolve into drug-resistant 'superbugs' and offers insightful strategies to mitigate the challenges posed by AMR.

Infographic AMR Guides

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is often described as a slow burn or an invisible pandemic. But here’s the thing: it’s already reshaping how we treat infections, protect communities and imagine the future of healthcare. These infographics break down the story in a way that’s easy to follow and hard to ignore, what AMR is, why it’s called a silent pandemic, and the everyday choices by healthcare professionals and the general public that make a real difference. Use them in classrooms, share them on WhatsApp and Insta, pass them along to colleagues and friends, and help more people see why this issue needs all of us to act now!
